From late August of 2019 into January 2020, Libby Oberlin and fourteen teenagers, devised, wrote, performed, and toured a musical stage play called Amongst the Millions. The show ran for four performances on the Rotary Stage at The Theater School in the Sonoma Community Center. Amongst the Millions and is currently on tour in the North Bay Area.
Amongst the Millions was written for teens by teens, to reflect with humor, insight, and grace the complexities that accompany coming of age. Catch a glimpse into the lives of fourteen students of Central High School, as they strive to fit in, stand out, and discover truth, ‘amongst the millions’. This original script and score takes a deep dive into topics such as bullying, peer pressure, consent, sexual identity, body image, and mental health. Though the issues may be complex, the story weaves in humor, and many moments of levity.
Amongst the Millions hopes to empower audiences to not hide from, but express your emotions, to ask for help or support when needed, and to be there for someone else in their time of need.
